The Rokupr Rice Research Station in Sierra Leone was once a major center for rice research, from the colonial period through the decades after independence, but today it is largely forgotten. This talk explores how working in tidal swamps shaped the scientific data collected there. As soils changed dramatically between rainy and dry seasons, experiments could yield very different results. Yet information from these particular fields traveled around the world, shaping a broader understanding of West African rice ecologies. I ask how local observations became global scientific data – and what changed along the way. Lecture Language: English ---- You can’t attend in person?
